"People who lack initiative hesitate to do what they cannot
do well. Ambition without initiative is simply daydreaming."
- Roy H. Williams
The World Needs People with Initiative
Why do some people make an impact on our world while
others don't? Everyone wants to succeed, wants to carve out
a better life for themselves, but not all do. The difference is
attitude, many people look at the accomplishments of others
and immediately think, I can't do that. Others come up with
excuse after excuse to validate their lack of action or
choosing not to take any initiative. Initiative means taking a
risk, putting yourself out there, taking responsibility for the
outcome of your actions and plans. When something goes
wrong at work, when there is a problem, are you the person
who points it out and places blame, or are you the one who
comes up with a solution to the problem and then takes
responsiblity for its outcome, good or bad?

The world needs more people to step out of the comfort zone
and make a difference in the world. You may not be able to
open a school in Africa like Opera or adopt kids from around
the world like Angelina & Brad. However, it doesn't matter
how much you give. In 2005 Oprah gave away $52 million this
is more than most small countries make, the average person
will never make, let alone give away $52 million dollars. Now
look at it as a percentage and it becomes a bit more
managable, Oprah's donation in 2005 amounted to 22% of her
gross income. Imagine what the world would be like if
everyone gave 22% of their gross income to help those with
nothing. My point is if comparing yourself to others is
stopping you from doing something, look at what others do
differently and you may find you are doing even more.

Do you spend a lot of time obsessing about what those
around you have and you don't. If you want more, take the
initiative, make a difference and do something about it - Stop
feeling sorry for yourself! If you blame others for your
misfortune or come up with excuse after excuse as to why
you can't get what you want, you'll never attain that which you
desire. Others have more because they took the initiative and
did something to get more. It may look to you like they didn't,
like it was all handed to them and you have it harder, you
didn't have the same opportuinities, parents, or talents. Are
you them? Do you have a crystal ball that tells you everything
about other people's lives, feelings, and struggles? If you
don't, what makes you think your right? Everyone has
struggles. Some more than others, however, those that take
the initiative to overcome those struggles make life look easy
to those that wallow in self pity.

Opportunities abound, you only have to decide to take the
initiative to find them. Start by focusing on what you have
instead of what you don't have. Count your blessings and
always remember that your worst day is a million times better
than 90% of the world's best day. At first it will take effort to
not compare yourself to others and to be content with what
you have. Once you get into the habit of thinking about your
life in a positive light things will all of a sudden seem easier,
opportunities will appear where they weren't before and you
will be happier. The opportunities are already there, but when
you are so busy wallowing in the negativity of self pity you
can't see them. When your attitude changes, your eyes see
things from a different perspective and you see what is
always there. Don't believe me? I challenge you to take a 30
day hiatus from negative thinking to prove me wrong. Every
morning, noon and night I want you to count your blessing
and ignore what you think others around you get. I want you
to be content with your lot in life for 30 days and see what
happens. You are blessed and have amazing talents and
potential - Now go out there and make your mark on the
world.
